Aussie distie launches NZ office and hires Terry Dunn

03 Oct 2013

Australian distributor Nextgen Distribution has set up shop in New Zealand, opening new offices in both Auckland and Wellington.

On top of appointing a New Zealand MD also, the company is expanding into the country and will commence operations as of October 1 to represent all its current vendor portfolio, which is led by Oracle.

“We are not exactly starting from zero. We have been doing some work in the New Zealand market through Australia," says Terry Dunn, new MD in the country.

"But our operations here will certainly take it to the next level of growth."

Claiming that the company will run independently as a local business, Dunn says the company already have partners in the market, but their intention is to expand on that further.

"We want to reach as many partners as possible and we are open to working with anyone that wants to work with us," he adds.

“There will be four of us between now and Christmas.

"That time will mostly involve settling in, covering the bases, talking to resellers and partners and getting plans in place for the next calendar year."

Dunn has worked around the New Zealand IT value added distribution market for several years. He was the Founder of VAD (Value Added Distribution), a market leader acquired by a multi-national in 2009. Terry stated,

“The opportunity to work with John and the Nextgen team from Australia was compelling," he adds.

"Nextgen has a built their reputation in Australia by helping Partners deliver enterprise solutions. Recently, I spent some time with several of Nextgen’s Australian Partners and we will be working hard in NZ to emulate the levels of customer satisfaction they told me they are experiencing.

"I look forward to reconnecting with the great Channel community we have in NZ and growing Nextgen NZ into one of the best value added Distributors in NZ."

Nextgen was started by industry veteran, John Walters, in 2011 to concentrate on enterprise and data centre technologies.

Staying on as the majority partner in the Kiwi move, Walters believes it was necessary to have a man on the ground in New Zealand.

“I have a strong affiliation and respect for New Zealand and the opportunity, so it was always part of our growth plans," he says.

"However, due to that respect, I was always nervous about just appointing a BDM and managing that role from Australia.

"We have formed an exciting relationship with one of the New Zealand Channels most respected people, in Terry Dunn, who will be our Managing Director, New Zealand.

"Terry has taken a serious equity stake in Nextgen Distribution New Zealand and will run it as a local company, initially hiring a Team of three staff across Auckland and Wellington with offices in Parnell, Auckland.

"I welcome Terry and the other members to the Nextgen Distribution Group and look forward to representing our vendors with increased focus and reach; developing an intimate relationship with Channel Partners; and bringing a fresh approach to the New Zealand IT distribution channel.”
