Dynatrace extends advanced observability and AIOps to AWS
Wed, 30th Nov 2022
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Software Intelligence company Dynatrace has announced its platform now natively supports AWS Compute Optimizer. This service uses customers' utilisation data to provide recommendations on provisioning Amazon Web Services (AWS) resources for improved resource utilisation.

This support enables the Dynatrace platform to automatically capture and analyse all Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances in customers’ AWS environments in near-real time. It also uses Dynatrace causal AIOps and automation capabilities to optimise Amazon EC2 consumption for cost, service reliability, and performance.

When IT teams deploy Dynatrace OneAgent to an AWS environment, it continuously discovers new EC2 instances as they come online, without any additional manual configuration, and provides memory consumption metrics. The users can then readily see how much memory is being used per EC2 instance. In addition, they can see contextual insights into what apps are running on each instance and the potential impact of over utilised memory among services and dependencies.

As Dynatrace detects memory usage, whether over or under-allocated, these metrics are automatically streamed via the application programming interface to AWS Compute Optimizer and associated with the respective EC2 instances as auto-tagged by Dynatrace. In AWS Compute Optimizer, users can now see these memory metrics from Dynatrace mapped to each EC2 instance.

The new offering builds on the Dynatrace platform’s ability to automatically capture full-stack observability metrics, with continuous topology and dependency mapping, to power intelligent and automated cloud modernisation at scale.

“As we continue to accelerate our digital transformation, access to best-in-class solutions like Dynatrace and AWS are critical to our success,” says Alex Hibbitt, Group SRE Director at albelli-Photobox Group.

“Extending Dynatrace’s AI-powered insights and automation to AWS Compute Optimizer will help to further enhance our digital services. It also enables us to maximise the impact of our resources and technology investments, fuelling innovation and driving measurable impact on our company’s bottom line.”

“Dynatrace is proud to work with AWS to help customers modernise and automate cloud operations,” adds Bob Wambach, Vice President of Product Marketing at Dynatrace.

“Extending our advanced observability, AIOps, and automation capabilities to power AWS Compute Optimizer enables our joint customers to prevent performance issues, avoid costly over-provisioning, and operate more efficiently. They can focus on what matters most – accelerating innovation and delivering exceptional digital experiences."

Dynatrace’s unified software intelligence platform combines broad and deep observability and continuous runtime application security with the most advanced AIOps to provide answers and intelligent automation from data at an enormous scale. It enables innovators to modernise and automate cloud operations, deliver software faster and more securely, and ensure flawless digital experiences. That’s why the world’s largest organisations trust the Dynatrace platform to accelerate digital transformation.

“To achieve an elastic, well-architected cloud environment, organisations must be able to optimise their usage of cloud resources," notes Rick Ochs, Principal Product Manager of Optimisations at AWS.

“With the Dynatrace platform’s support of AWS Compute Optimizer, we provide our customers with memory-aware rightsizing so they can increase operational efficiency and get the most out of AWS.”
