Smartsheet unveils AI-driven upgrades to boost enterprise agility

Thu, 6th Nov 2025

Smartsheet has announced a suite of new capabilities for its platform, including generative AI, agentic AI, and enterprise-grade features aimed at enhancing Intelligent Work Management for large organisations.

AI-powered enhancements

The company detailed several major updates to its platform, introducing features designed to streamline project execution, optimise workflows, and strengthen data security. The new capabilities leverage AI to support both strategic planning and day-to-day operational tasks across complex organisations.

Among the headline features is the introduction of Smart Agents. These are intended to operate as digital team members, proactively managing tasks and moving work forward. The first of these, the Project Manager Smart Agent, will monitor team progress, suggest project improvements, and provide early warning of potential risks with recommendations for mitigation.

Looking to the year ahead, Smartsheet is preparing to launch Smart Hub-a centralised platform for configuring and managing various AI components and custom agents. Smart Hub will give customers access to digital solutions such as Smart Assist, Smart Flow, and Smart Columns, along with clear insights into data usage and governance.

Enterprise focus

Smartsheet is also rolling out a set of enterprise-focused features. These include Scenario Planning, which will allow users to examine multiple 'what-if' scenarios to aid decision making without impacting live operations. Additionally, features such as Portfolios, Dynamic Dropdowns, Security Score, and Multi-Factor Authentication are intended to help organisations manage projects at scale while maintaining strong security and data governance.

Chief Executive Officer Rajeev Singh commented on the announcement, emphasising the platform's evolution towards AI-supported collaboration.

"Intelligent Work Management is the operating model for the modern enterprise. We're delivering AI that's truly collaborative, securely anchored in customer data and designed to augment human intelligence-ushering in a new era of work by enabling teams to execute with unprecedented speed and precision."

Smartsheet's new offerings are supported by the Smartsheet Knowledge Graph, which serves as a flexible data model underpinning AI guidance and recommendations across the platform.

Customer experience

Designed for over 123,000 organisations-including a significant number of Fortune 500 companies-the enhanced platform aims to minimise workflow silos that can impede organisational agility. According to Smartsheet, its users manage nearly three million active projects globally, highlighting the potential scale of impact for the updated features.

The suite of AI tools includes Smart Assist, which acts as an AI companion helping to create workspaces and automations from simple prompts, and Smart Flows, which automates complex workflows through natural language commands. With Smart Columns, users can automatically classify, translate, summarise, or label data directly within their sheets, reducing manual intervention and increasing efficiency.

The planned Smart Hub will place further emphasis on data visibility and responsible AI use. Smartsheet states that customers will have transparency in how their data is being utilised and when AI is influencing business processes.

Industry views

Dion Hinchcliffe, Vice President and Practise Lead, Digital Leadership & CIO at the Futurum Group, reflected on the broader significance of Smartsheet's new direction.

"While AI tools are being deployed extensively today, many are only scratching the surface with narrow, siloed applications. The real value comes from going beyond simple task automation to use AI to reframe how work is structured and decisions are made. The new suite of AI capabilities Smartsheet announced today, powered by the Knowledge Graph, is a strategic move to deliver this kind of deep ROI. Features like Smart Assist and Smart Agents will immediately enable customers to shift from manual coordination to intelligent work."

Availability

Smartsheet confirmed that its Portfolios feature is now available to participants of its Early Adopter Programme and is scheduled for general release by the first quarter of 2026. Smart Assist and Scenario Planning are currently in a private beta, with a broader early access rollout planned for later this year. Smart Flows, Smart Columns, and Smart Agents will also enter the Early Adopter Programme in coming months.
