Ui-jong Choi appointed Chief Technology Officer at Hyperconnect

Ui-jong Choi has been appointed as Chief Technology Officer at Hyperconnect, the video chat platform company based in Korea and owned by Match Group.

Choi joins with over twenty years of experience in the gaming and platform sectors, having led development teams and technology strategies at several companies. At Hyperconnect, he will take charge of advancing the company's global technology roadmap, with a mandate to foster a large-scale engineering culture and further strengthen Hyperconnect's presence in international markets.

Track record

Choi's background includes overseeing the development of Lost Ark Mobile as Technical Director at Smilegate RPG. He previously held leadership roles at Nexon Games, serving as Technical Director for the action role-playing game HIT, and at Wemade IO, where he led the development of Lost Saga as Chief Technology Officer.

During his time at Smilegate RPG, Choi established a new mobile development studio and fostered a quality-first approach in product development. At Nexon Games, he was instrumental in the global expansion of flagship titles by building localisation and operational infrastructures. At Wemade IO, as CTO, he doubled the size of the development team and launched major game projects.

Strategic focus

Hyperconnect integrates artificial intelligence into all its products and services, driven by proprietary WebRTC technology. According to the company, Azar continues to see sustained popularity more than ten years after its initial launch.

The company employs both AI research and engineering teams, applying technological advances across a range of services. Hyperconnect reports recognition in international academic journals and has received several industry awards in recent years.

Organisational ambitions

Alongside elevating Hyperconnect's global technology roadmap, Choi's appointment indicates a continued effort to build a world-class technology organisation. The company states that a CTO-led leadership structure is key to enhancing its market agility, allowing it to respond more effectively to global technology trends.

Choi's hiring also supports Match Group's efforts to strengthen its Seoul-based technology hub, with local teams set to play a larger role across the business.
