Canton Foundation & LG CNS back Korea network push
Wed, 21st Oct 2026 (Today)
Canton Foundation and LG CNS have formed a strategic partnership to support institutional adoption of the Canton Network in South Korea, with a focus on working with the country's financial institutions.
They will jointly pursue opportunities with Korean institutions, build the technical foundations for Canton implementations and help expand a broader network of technical partners around the platform.
The effort combines Canton Foundation's existing network of financial institutions and market participants with LG CNS's long-standing presence in South Korea's financial technology and systems market.
LG CNS said it has worked on blockchain-based financial business in Korea since 2015. Its projects have included infrastructure for blockchain-based electronic securities and systems linked to digital assets, including central bank digital currencies, tokenised deposits, security tokens and stablecoins, as well as digital wallets and know-your-customer systems for financial institutions.
It also said it has spent more than 30 years developing and operating core systems for commercial banks, securities firms, credit card groups and insurers in the country.
Three areas
The partnership will focus on three main areas. The first is institutional market development, with the two groups planning to engage financial institutions and other market participants in Korea to identify use cases and potential projects tied to Canton.
The second is technical enablement and implementation, covering technical support, architecture and implementation requirements for institutions and enterprises considering the network.
The third is the development of a broader technical partner ecosystem. Under this work, LG CNS will contribute technical and implementation expertise as Canton Foundation builds a wider partner framework to support institutional use of the network.
The collaboration reflects a wider shift in parts of the financial sector from blockchain experimentation to deployment, particularly in markets where regulators, banks and technology providers have become more active in tokenised assets and related digital infrastructure.
South Korea has been one of the more closely watched markets in Asia in this regard, with local financial groups exploring digital asset issuance, settlement systems and other forms of distributed ledger-based infrastructure.
Hongkeun Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Digital Business Division at LG CNS, highlighted that point in a statement on the deal.
"Financial institutions are increasingly moving from exploring blockchain technology toward practical implementation. Through our partnership with Canton Foundation, we look forward to combining LG CNS's technology and implementation capabilities with the Canton ecosystem to develop meaningful opportunities with institutions in Korea. We also look forward to contributing our experience to the development of a broader technical partner ecosystem that can support institutional adoption over the long term," said Hongkeun Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Digital Business Division at LG CNS.
Canton Foundation said the South Korean market is an important part of its push for institutional adoption in Asia, and that the partnership is intended to support both commercial engagement and the technical work needed for deployment.
Thomas Chou, Head of APAC at Canton Foundation, said: "Korea is a critical market for institutional adoption of Canton in Asia. This partnership is about building the market together, combining Canton's growing institutional ecosystem with LG CNS's deep technology capabilities and relationships across the Korean financial sector. Together, we aim to help institutions move from identifying opportunities to implementation, while building the broader technical ecosystem needed to support adoption at scale."
While the initial emphasis is on Korea, the two organisations said they will also examine whether their work together could be applied in other markets. The arrangement establishes a longer-term collaboration across institutional market development, technical implementation and ecosystem expansion.
