FairPrice to roll out smart carts across Singapore stores

Thu, 23rd Apr 2026 (Today)

FairPrice Group will extend its Store of Tomorrow retail technology programme across its supermarket network in Singapore through the end of 2026.

The expansion will bring smart shopping carts, digital price cards, the ShopBeyond retail format and the Grocer Genie staff app to more stores after pilots at the group's outlet in Punggol Digital District. Developed with Google Cloud, the programme follows the launch of its first generative AI-powered supermarket in Punggol in 2025.

Smart carts will be introduced at 48 FairPrice Xtra and Finest outlets by the end of 2026. They are designed to guide shoppers through store aisles, present offers based on items in the basket and let customers scan and pay as they shop.

At the Punggol Coast Mall store, the carts cut checkout times from minutes to an average of 36 seconds after their introduction in August 2025. FairPrice Group plans to expand them to more supermarkets after the initial rollout.

Digital price cards are also set to reach 48 supermarket outlets by the end of 2026. They will show real-time pricing and promotional information, reducing the need for printed labels.

FairPrice Group estimates the digital price cards will save 15,000 man-hours and SGD 138,000 a year by cutting printing and replacement work. The displays will also use Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform to generate product visuals for the screens.

Another part of the programme is ShopBeyond, a hybrid format that links physical displays in stores to FairPrice Group's wider online catalogue. It allows shoppers to order related products for delivery while they are in store.

ShopBeyond is already available at FairPrice Punggol Coast Mall and FairPrice Tengah Point. The format will be expanded progressively to more outlets, though no store count was given.

For store staff, FairPrice Group plans to deploy Grocer Genie to all supermarket teams by the end of 2026. The app is intended to bring store operations together on one mobile platform and includes task management and analysis of sales, inventory and customer satisfaction data.

The group launched the Store of Tomorrow programme in 2025 with a target of piloting 20 digital solutions each year for customers and employees. Its outlet at Punggol Digital District serves as the main test site, where the four tools now set for wider rollout were first trialled.

Group CEO Vipul Chawla said the technology is intended to ease daily tasks for both shoppers and employees. "By bringing proven AI solutions from our Store of Tomorrow programme to more supermarkets across the island, we want to reimagine the shopping experience for our customers and remove the friction from their weekly grocery runs. Whether it's with smart carts that provide personalised offers and in-store navigation, or hybrid retail formats that bring together the best of physical and online shopping, our aim with the programme is to make every day a little better for all in Singapore," he said.

Google Cloud said its work with FairPrice Group has moved from pilot projects to a broader operational deployment, with measurable productivity gains and shorter checkout times from systems already in use.

Mark Micallef, Managing Director for Southeast Asia at Google Cloud, said: "FairPrice Group's Store of Tomorrow programme is a masterclass in how retailers can thoughtfully and strategically transcend enterprise AI pilots to achieve tangible value at scale. By deploying tried-and-tested innovations in its supermarkets island-wide, FairPrice Group is realising significant operational ROI-from measurable productivity gains to a clear reduction in checkout friction.

"This week at Google Cloud Next '26, FairPrice Group is showcasing their success on a global stage. We're now deepening our collaboration, enabling FairPrice Group to harness Google Cloud's Agentic Data Cloud and Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform to design even more solutions that deliver real-world benefits. By moving beyond simple chatbot assistance to an interoperable ecosystem of AI agents that reason and act across a complex grocery value chain, we're helping FairPrice Group create elevated shopping experiences for customers, smarter tools for frontline workers, and a more efficient retail ecosystem for all of Singapore," he said.

Separately, FairPrice Group has integrated MyInfo into its app to simplify access to daily discount schemes for eligible shoppers. Nearly 900,000 Link members have updated their app profiles through MyInfo so discounts can be applied automatically at payment.

Formed in 2019, FairPrice Group brings together FairPrice, Kopitiam, Foodfare and Link. It operates more than 570 touchpoints across Singapore.
