Mphasis strikes AI modernisation pact with TechnoPro

Mphasis has signed a strategic agreement with TechnoPro Holdings to bring its AI and modernisation offerings to Japan, initially focusing on financial services and manufacturing.

The deal combines Mphasis' software and consulting capabilities with TechnoPro's network of about 30,000 engineers and researchers, many of whom work at client sites across Japan. The partners plan to use that footprint to help customers replace legacy systems, redesign business processes and accelerate software development.

Japan has become a key market for technology suppliers as companies seek to overhaul long-standing core systems while coping with labour shortages. That has made modernisation and automation a central focus for service providers targeting large industrial and financial groups.

Under the agreement, TechnoPro will introduce Mphasis Modernize and Mphasis Optimize to customers in Japan. The arrangement will also cover cybersecurity, compliance and security services.

The work will extend to development environments where TechnoPro engineers use AI agents alongside existing teams. The partners also plan to apply the tools within TechnoPro's own operations, including recruitment, sales matching, talent allocation and corporate planning, before turning proven workflows into sector-specific products for customers.

Local push

For Mphasis, the agreement strengthens its position in a market where local reach and customer proximity often shape buying decisions. TechnoPro brings established relationships in automotive, manufacturing and technology, while Mphasis adds products designed for system renewal and process change.

The partners also aim to create a model in which issues identified by TechnoPro engineers at customer sites are addressed using AI and then reused across other clients and industries. The approach is intended to turn site-level knowledge into repeatable methods for broader deployment.

The arrangement reflects a broader shift in Japan's technology market, where demand is rising for services that can address legacy infrastructure without requiring wholesale replacement in a single step. Financial institutions and manufacturers, in particular, often run complex older systems that are deeply embedded in daily operations.

Labour constraints add to the pressure. With fewer skilled workers available in some technical areas, service providers have increasingly positioned AI tools as a way to support engineers and reduce manual work in coding, testing and operations.

Mphasis said its Tria platform and NeoIP suite will form part of the delivery model in Japan. The tools are intended to support software development, testing and operational decision-making, as well as broader efforts to modernise business systems.

TechnoPro linked the agreement to its management plan and its ambition to expand the use of AI across its engineering base.
