NFT eco treasure hunt aims to engage families at Singapore festival

Wed, 4th Jun 2025

Mintable has partnered with Singapore's Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment to introduce an NFT-based educational scavenger hunt at the Youth4Climate Festival 2025.

The event is being held at City Square Mall as part of the Singapore Sustainability Festival, with the aim of bringing families together to raise awareness and encourage actions that promote a greener and more sustainable future.

Mintable, a Singapore-based NFT marketplace, is deploying its gasless NFT infrastructure for the festival's interactive Eco Trail Treasure Hunt. This initiative is a collaboration involving City Developments Limited, Singapore Innovation Centre, the Asia Blockchain Association, and the Sustainability Alliance, alongside support from Go Green SG and funding from SG Eco Fund.

The Eco Treasure Hunt is structured as an Eco Adventure card game. Mintable's B2B utility NFT division, Mintology, is providing the blockchain technology that underpins the treasure hunt. Participants will have the opportunity to collect five unique "Green Stop" NFTs by scanning digital badges located at eco-friendly installations throughout the mall.

Each "Green Stop" offers a brief lesson focused on sustainability, with educational content available at every stage. These lessons cover a variety of topics, including upcycling workshops, exploration of sustainable materials, the significance of trees, and how visual upcycled art can shift societal perceptions regarding sustainability. All lessons are designed to be accessible and engaging for children, integrating digital technology with activities that require real-world participation.

The event does not require participants to possess any prior Web3 knowledge. The process of collecting the NFT badges is designed to be straightforward and user-friendly, aiming to broaden exposure to blockchain technology among younger audiences in an educational context.

Completion of the trail, by collecting all five NFTs, offers participants eligibility to enter the Youth4Climate Festival and Singapore Sustainability Festival's lucky draw for prizes. This approach combines education, gamification, and technology to encourage greater youth engagement in climate action themes.

The campaign is intended as a demonstration of how NFTs can be implemented in government-supported environmental initiatives, with the aim of driving broader adoption of Web3 technology in contexts with a sustainability focus.

Zach Burks, Chief Executive Officer of Mintable, commented on the collaboration, stating, "We welcome this partnership with Go Green SG. Web3 continues to become more important to everyday life, and education is one area where there is a real opportunity to engage young people through interaction. In a world that is becoming dominated by screen time, it is vital to build functionality that supports a balanced approach and promotes healthy digital attitudes into the next generation. We are excited by the potential of the gasless minting technology deployed into the treasure hunt and will continue working with key government bodies to build future solutions that help everyday individuals better interact with the world around them."

The initiative highlights efforts by both the public and private sectors in Singapore to explore digital solutions in educational outreach on sustainability, using interactive methods to foster greater environmental awareness among families and young people.

The Youth4Climate Festival 2025, hosted at City Square Mall, forms part of the wider Singapore Sustainability Festival programme. Events and activities are structured to be family-friendly, aiming to cultivate a better understanding of climate issues and promote individual and collective actions that contribute to Singapore's national sustainability goals.

The integration of NFT technology in the educational trail is intended to offer both a digital and physical experience, aligning with broader governmental efforts to balance technological advancement with responsible and positive digital usage.

The event's emphasis on simplicity and accessibility is designed to reach a wide audience, ensuring that the use of NFTs supports learning and participation rather than creating barriers.

The festival is supported by several Singaporean government and community organisations, with the hope that it will provide a blueprint for similar educational activities utilising emerging technologies in sustainability-related initiatives.
