NVIDIA opens Vietnam R&D centre to boost AI innovation
NVIDIA has announced the establishment of its first research and development centre in Vietnam, marking a commitment to advance artificial intelligence in the country.
The company is working closely with the Vietnamese government to set up the Vietnam Research and Development Centre, which will specialise in artificial intelligence. This new facility aims to leverage Vietnam's rich pool of STEM talent and involve industry leaders, startups, government agencies, universities, and students to boost AI adoption.
"We are delighted to open NVIDIA's R&D centre to accelerate Vietnam's AI journey," said Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA. "With our expertise in AI development, we will partner with a vibrant ecosystem of researchers, startups and enterprise organisations to build incredible AI right here in Vietnam."
NVIDIA plans for the Vietnam R&D Centre to create platforms that will foster AI innovation. This infrastructure will provide researchers and startups with the tools to develop AI applications in critical sectors like healthcare, education, transportation, and finance.
As Vietnam's manufacturing sectors such as technology, automotive, electronics, and textiles rapidly expand, the nation has established itself as one of the fastest-growing economies globally. In recent years, Vietnam's AI market has seen substantial growth, supported by technological progress, government encouragement, and broadening AI integration across various industries. Since 2021, AI development has been prominently featured in Vietnam's digital transformation strategy, aiming to inspire innovation and establish a strong AI ecosystem to lead regional R&D.
In support of this development, Prime Minister of Vietnam Pham Minh Chinh remarked, "The government of Vietnam is focused on innovation as one of the key elements of its development strategy. With this strategic partnership, the Vietnamese government and NVIDIA are committed to jointly promoting the strong development of AI technology in Vietnam and creating a bright future for the innovation ecosystem and high-tech industry in Southeast Asia."
NVIDIA has a history of engagement in Vietnam's technological sphere, having been active for the past eight years. More than 100 Vietnamese AI startups participate in NVIDIA's Inception programme, and the company collaborates with 65 universities throughout Vietnam. NVIDIA also began working with FPT Smart Cloud last year, marking its first Vietnamese cloud partnership.
