SAP & NVIDIA boost partnership to enhance generative AI for enterprise
Tue, 19th Mar 2024

SAP and NVIDIA have unveiled their partnership expansion designed to enhance enterprise customers' capability to utilise the transformative power of data and generative Artificial Intelligence (AI). This focus will be particularly applied across SAP's diverse portfolio of cloud solutions and applications.

As part of their initiative, the companies plan to build and deliver SAP Business AI, which includes scalable, business-specific generative AI capabilities. Furthermore, it will infuse the Joule copilot from SAP and impact SAP's portfolio of cloud solutions, all grounded by the SAP generative AI hub, which gives users immediate access to a suite of large language models (LLMs).

Christian Klein, SAP CEO, explained how strategic technology partnerships lie at the heart of SAP's investment endeavours. "We aim to invest in technology that maximises the potential and opportunity of AI for business," stated Klein. NVIDIA’s expertise in delivering AI capabilities at scale will help SAP accelerate the pace of transformation and better serve our customers in the cloud."

NVIDIA Founder and CEO Jensen Huang explained that SAP's enterprise data can be leveraged to create custom generative AI agents to help businesses automate their functions. He said, "Together, NVIDIA and SAP will bring custom generative AI to the thousands of enterprises around the world that rely on SAP to power their operations."

As part of their collaboration, SAP and NVIDIA will integrate generative AI into SAP's cloud solutions, including SAP Datasphere solution, SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), and RISE with SAP. Additional generative AI will be built within SAP BTP using NVIDIA's generative AI foundry service. The companies are also exploring over 20 generative AI use cases to simplify and enhance digital transformation. They will leverage SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SAP SuccessFactors, and SAP Signavio to automate enterprise resource planning, improve HR functions, and accelerate new generative AI insights.

To enhance large language models (LLMs) for the ABAP programming language, SAP intends to use NVIDIA AI foundry services. By doing so, they aim to assist developers in creating domain-specific language code, augmenting SAP's use of generative AI models that aid developers through the ABAP Cloud model.

When the AI models are ready for deployment, SAP will employ NVIDIA AI Enterprise software for maximising inference performance across the accelerated infrastructure. Consequently, RAG capabilities are added to enable the generative AI applications to securely access data running on SAP software and provide enhanced accuracy and insights. The integrated capabilities should be up and running by the end of 2024.
