Zyxel launches PoE extender to aid SMB & MSP connectivity

Wed, 2nd Oct 2024

Zyxel Networks has introduced a new Power over Ethernet (PoE) Extender, the PoE12-3PD, aimed at addressing network deployment challenges over long distances for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and managed service providers (MSPs).

This solution is designed to extend network coverage beyond the typical 100-meter limitation, making it suitable for various environments including outdoor spaces and historical buildings.

The PoE12-3PD simplifies network extension processes by allowing data and power transmission through a plug-and-play setup. By connecting the PoE++ uplink port to a PoE switch capable of delivering up to 60W of power, the extender can allocate up to 45W of power through its three PoE+ downlink ports. This facilitates point-to-multipoint PoE applications and supports devices such as IP cameras, access control systems, and IoT devices that are often installed in hard-to-reach locations.

Once deployed, network administrators can monitor the status of their network through Zyxel Networks' Nebula Control Center. This platform offers a unified monitoring experience and is accessible via both web and mobile applications, streamlining network management and troubleshooting processes. Notably, the PoE12-3PD's Continuous PoE feature ensures uninterrupted power delivery even during power cycles and firmware updates, minimising maintenance downtime.

The extender is robustly designed to withstand extreme environmental conditions, with an operational range from -20°C to 50°C. It is suitable for use in both wall and pole mounts and features an IP55 enclosure, 6KV surge protection, and grounding capabilities. This durability makes it ideal for outdoor and industrial settings. Additionally, the PoE12-3PD is packaged plastic-free, reflecting Zyxel Networks' commitment to reducing waste and its carbon footprint.

Gary Chen, ANZ regional head at Zyxel Networks, highlighted the practical applications of the new extender. "The PoE12-3PD is testament to the dedication we put in to solving real-world challenges faced by our customers. Many smaller businesses prepare themselves for expansion, but often find moving to bigger offices can cause connectivity headaches," he stated. "That is why we have developed a plug-and-play solution that empowers SMBs and MSPs to deploy networks in complex environments with ease and confidence."

Zyxel Networks is a provider of secure, AI-powered cloud networking solutions for SMBs and the enterprise-edge. The company delivers connectivity and flexible scalability through subscription services, all backed by robust security.
