Airwallex unveils AI assistant to streamline finance tasks

Mon, 9th Feb 2026

Airwallex has launched an AI Assistant inside its web application, adding a chat-style interface that answers questions about account activity and carries out selected tasks across the platform.

The assistant sits within the Airwallex WebApp and draws on a customer's Airwallex data alongside product and operational information. Airwallex positions it as a way for businesses to navigate multi-currency activity and handle common operational questions with fewer steps.

Available now in the WebApp, the assistant initially focuses on guidance, visibility into activity such as payments and balances, and a limited set of actions. Airwallex plans to expand the range of tasks it can complete over time.

Onboarding tasks

An early use case is onboarding and initial configuration. Customers can describe what they want to do instead of working through multiple setup screens or searching documentation.

In examples provided, a user can ask to receive USD and EUR payments from international customers, or request corporate cards to pay advertising vendors such as Google and Meta.

The assistant can open relevant Global Accounts, enable payment methods, and create and issue corporate cards. It also provides step-by-step guidance, presenting the workflow in what Airwallex describes as the correct order for each task.

Operational visibility

Beyond setup, the assistant answers day-to-day questions that finance teams often route through internal administrators or support. It can show the status of payment applications, deposits, and payouts, explain where funds are in the process, and indicate when they are expected to arrive.

It can also explain fees and invoice line items, placing it among customer-facing AI features designed to reduce support demand and speed up routine investigations inside financial platforms.

When the assistant cannot resolve an issue end-to-end, it can escalate the matter to human support. Airwallex says it can triage requests and route them to the relevant team.

Actions today

Currently supported actions include creating corporate cards for team members and tracking payment applications-aimed at reducing uncertainty around money movement and cutting time spent searching dashboards.

Airwallex says the assistant is trained on multi-currency transaction flows and regulatory requirements, as well as a customer's specific Airwallex data, and that the guidance it provides is "instantly actionable and compliant".

The launch comes as fintech and banking providers increase investment in conversational interfaces that sit alongside existing dashboards and workflows. Many are intended to make configuration and investigation less dependent on specialist knowledge of a platform.

Planned expansion

Airwallex outlined features it expects to add, including creating payment links and setting up spend approval workflows using natural-language prompts. Another planned capability is suggesting transfer methods or currencies when a bank code cannot be found.

It also described a future feature to recognise recurring patterns, such as repeat transfers to the same recipient. In those cases, the assistant would prefill details and guide the user through completion.

In example scenarios, Airwallex described an account owner asking for a breakdown of cash positions across currencies at the start of the day. Another scenario involves entering a new market and asking for guidance on accepting payments from Europe, with the assistant recommending an integration method and enabling local payment methods.

A further example covers internal reporting questions, such as how much a marketing team spent over a period and which vendors received the most. Airwallex also described a planned scenario in which the assistant explains an expense policy and flags issues when a user asks whether a claim is within policy.

Product direction

Airwallex says the assistant is part of a broader plan to embed AI across its product suite, acting as an interaction layer across WebApp products. It also pointed to future work on default configuration for business accounts, recommendations across payments, foreign exchange, and transfers, and analytics on top of a customer's Airwallex data.

Airwallex framed the assistant as a step toward reducing manual workflows and shifting routine finance work into a conversational interface that can both explain and execute tasks.

"Our vision is to give every business a trustworthy, personalised AI concierge that makes finance invisible and opportunity obvious and empower businesses to focus on building the future," said Airwallex.

Airwallex says the AI Assistant is now live in the WebApp, with additional task support-including payment links and spend approval workflows-expected to roll out as the feature expands.
