OpenSys debuts Horizon cash recycling banking platform
OpenSys has launched the Horizon Series, a self-service banking platform built with cash recycling technology from Japan's OKI and assembled in Malaysia by OpenSys Technologies.
The group said OpenSys Technologies developed the platform in collaboration with Oki Electric Industry, which trades as OKI. The launch coincided with a partnership signing ceremony between the two companies in Kuala Lumpur.
OpenSys said the Horizon Series is the first cash recycling self-service banking platform designed and manufactured in Malaysia by OpenSys Technologies. It includes a cash recycling module supplied by OKI.
The platform centres on cash recycling, where a customer deposit can be used for future withdrawals. OpenSys said this approach can change how banks manage cash holdings and replenishment routines across branch networks.
Cash recycling machines combine deposit and withdrawal functions in a single unit. OpenSys said the design can reduce the number of terminals required in a branch, compared with separate deposit and withdrawal devices.
Branch operations
The companies positioned the product around changes in branch banking. OpenSys pointed to cost pressure, automation programmes, and the need to meet regulatory requirements.
The Horizon Series consolidates several self-service functions on one platform, according to the company. OpenSys described it as a basis for modernising branch operations and expanding service availability.
Denis Koay, Group Chief Commercial Officer of OpenSys and Co-CEO of OpenSys Technologies, framed the product around cash usage and self-service in branches.
"The Horizon Series is designed to help banks improve cash economics while rethinking the role of self-service in a digital-first banking environment," said Denis Koay, Group Chief Commercial Officer of OpenSys and Co-CEO of OpenSys Technologies.
Koay said the company sees the platform as upgradeable over time. He also linked the platform to consolidation of operations and service expansion without regular replacement cycles.
"It provides a resilient, upgradeable platform that allows financial institutions to consolidate operations, expand services, and adapt over time without repeated infrastructure replacement," said Koay.
Technology partners
OKI said its cash recycling technology has seen deployments in multiple banking settings globally. The company linked the new product to a locally assembled system built with OpenSys Technologies.
Shotaro Nakatsu, Executive Officer and Head of the Enterprise Solutions Division at OKI, described the collaboration as an extension of existing cash recycling systems into a product assembled in Malaysia.
"OKI's cash recycling technology has been deployed globally across diverse banking environments," said Shotaro Nakatsu, Executive Officer and Head of the Enterprise Solutions Division, OKI.
"Through this collaboration with OpenSys Technologies, we are extending that proven foundation into a locally assembled platform that supports more efficient branch operations and the evolving needs of self-service banking," said Nakatsu.
Modular functions
OpenSys described the Horizon Series as modular. It said banks can start with cash services and add other functions over time.
The company listed cheque deposit, instant card issuance, payments, biometric authentication, and digital service integration as additional functions available on the platform. It said banks can add these functions without replacing the underlying hardware.
OpenSys also described the terminals as interactive service points. It said the platform includes options for remote assistance and integrated digital services. It also referred to AI-enabled functions as part of the broader design.
Security features
OpenSys said it built security and compliance into the hardware and software layers. It said the platform supports certifications used in the banking industry, along with anti-skimming measures and transaction imaging.
The company also listed secure cash handling and biometric authentication among supported functions. It positioned the set of features around deployment in regulated banking environments.
Availability plans
OpenSys said the Horizon Series will be commercially available from January 2026. It said it will offer configurations matched to regulatory and operational requirements across the region.
OpenSys is a Malaysian technology solutions provider that serves financial services, telecommunications, and utilities customers.
