Oracle recognised in Forrester ANZ Cloud report
Mon, 21st Sep 2020
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Oracle has been named a Strong Performer on The Forrester Wave: Public Cloud Development and Infrastructure Platforms, Australia/New Zealand, Q3 2020.

The Forrester report notes an improvement on Oracle's position in this category since Forrester's North American assessment earlier this year, due to improvements in workload-specific developer experience and related PaaS services.

Due to demand, its previously announced services for data scientists has been upgraded to general availability.

“We're honoured to have Forrester recognise Oracle as a Strong Performer among Cloud Infrastructure Platforms. We're committed to helping our Australian and New Zealand customers more easily run their mission-critical workloads across multi-cloud environments,” says Oracle ANZ managing director Cherie Ryan.

“Our cloud infrastructure business is growing rapidly, and since July we've launched 10 new Generation 2 Cloud regions around the world – well on our way to our goal of 36 by the end of the year. In Australia, we have launched Cloud regions in both Sydney and Melbourne in the past year.

According to the Forrester report:

  • “Oracle has shown up with the intent on making plays beyond its enterprise app portfolio. A latecomer to public cloud platforms, Oracle's latest generation of infrastructure services are stronger and richer and profits from competitive pricing and aggressive global expansion.”

  • “Although the infrastructure services themselves remain technically similar when compared to Leaders [in this market]. Oracle wants to use public cloud services, including infrastructure, to offer its hundreds of thousands of database and enterprise application customers a path to the future and help them modernise their existing application estates.”

  • “Oracle Cloud Platform's strengths include a leading database with multimodal capabilities, a built-in DevOps toolchain, mature identity management and controls, and a low-code development option particularly important to its software-as-a-service (SaaS) customers.”

  • “Oracle has the greatest level of global service parity in Australia; even its cloud high-performance computing offerings take just weeks, not months, to arrive onshore.”

  • “We expect Oracle to strengthen its capabilities in the short term and offer services that appeal to a broader base of developers in the long run. Oracle Cloud is best for extending and modernising current Oracle application and database investments.”

This news follows the recent launch of Oracle's Dedicated Region Cloud@Customer, a fully-managed cloud region that brings all of Oracle's second-generation cloud services, including Autonomous Database and Oracle Cloud applications, to customer data centers.
