ACTAI Asia Pacific Summit backs AI startups for sustainability
The ACTAI Asia Pacific Summit recently convened a diverse group of venture capitalists, technology leaders, and conservationists on Pangulasian Island in the Philippines, with a focus on purpose-driven innovation and environmental advocacy.
The summit, directed by Maria Serafica, centred on harnessing the potential of technology to address pressing global issues. Attendees came together with a shared mission of creating positive social, environmental, and economic outcomes through the application of advanced technologies.
Collaboration and mission
ACTAI Global, the organiser of the summit, seeks to unite experts across industries, enabling collaborative efforts to address global challenges. Central to its mission is the support of entrepreneurs who utilise technologies such as artificial intelligence to provide scalable solutions aimed at improving lives, protecting the planet, and moving towards a more sustainable and equitable future.
Beyond technology, the organisation also emphasises ocean conservation. The summit included discussions on coral restoration in El Nido and proposals to develop marine protected areas around the Philippines.
AI competition and support for startups
A key event at the summit was an artificial intelligence startup competition, organised in collaboration with Ayala Land. The intention was to highlight and support startups developing practical solutions for critical global problems spanning sustainability, healthcare, and education.
The competition served as a platform for entrepreneurs to present their concepts to investors, subject matter experts, and prominent figures within the technology sector. Judges included Lars Rasmussen, inventor of Google Maps; Bill Tai; Patrick Chang of Dispersion Capital; and members of the Ayala family, Jaime Alfonso Zobel de Ayala and Mariana Zobel de Ayala.
The approach sought to bridge promising startups with industry leaders and venture capitalists, enhancing opportunities for mentorship, access to resources, and growth. ACTAI Global's objective is to help accelerate transformative technologies and empower the next generation of innovators.
Competition outcome
Perle AI, formerly Kiva AI, was named the winner of the competition for its scalable artificial intelligence solutions that optimise business operations and decision-making. Its approach covers a range of industries, enabling organisations to unlock the potential of their data and address complex operational challenges.
Ahmed Rashad, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Perle AI, stated:
We are incredibly honoured to be recognised by ACTAI Global. This event is more than just a competition; it's a convergence of brilliant minds coming together to create meaningful change. Being part of this network is a game-changer for us, and we're eager to leverage AI to drive real-world impact on sustainability and economic growth.
Bill Tai, Co-Founder of ACTAI Global, highlighted the broader intent behind the summit and its activities:
The future of innovation is not just about creating new technologies - it's about using those technologies to make a positive difference. Innovation is at its best when it serves a purpose beyond business success. At ACTAI, we're not just fostering tech entrepreneurship; we're championing visionaries who are committed to solving humanity's biggest challenges.
Tai continued:
Perle AI exemplifies the kind of companies we are excited to support - innovators who are using AI not only to drive business growth but to solve some of the world's most urgent problems. I am thrilled to see how Perle AI and other participants in the competition will continue to push the boundaries of what's possible.
Activities and atmosphere
The summit incorporated not only business and technology discussions but also outdoor pursuits such as kite surfing - an activity popular within the ACTAI community for its perceived alignment with the principles of strategic risk-taking and adaptability often required in innovation.
A musical performance from Matt Sorum of Guns and Roses and APL.de.AP provided one of the event's memorable moments.
The ACTAI Asia Pacific Summit received support from partners including Bank of the Philippines and GCASH, and saw participation from attendees representing more than thirteen countries. The summit combined high-level business dialogue with experiential activities in an effort to encourage solutions aimed at sustainable, tangible impact.
