Huawei Cloud unveils innovative AI & cloud solutions at HUAWEI CONNECT

Huawei Cloud has introduced two new solutions, CloudMatrix and the Huawei Mainframe-to-Cloud Solution, at the 9th HUAWEI CONNECT event held in Shanghai.

The event, themed "Amplify Intelligence," drew experts, partners, and professionals from various industries to explore the transformative potential of digital technologies.

During the keynote speech, Zhang Ping'an, Executive Director of the Board of Huawei and CEO of Huawei Cloud, presented the CloudMatrix AI-native cloud infrastructure and the Huawei Mainframe-to-Cloud Solution. Highlighting the importance of an AI-native approach, Zhang said, "First, we must actively embrace AI, open up industry scenarios, and develop enterprise AI platforms. This will enable AI to serve the core business of enterprises. Our practices have shown that the earlier we introduce AI, the faster we can benefit from it."

Zhang further elaborated on the growing importance of AI computing power, the quality of data, and the need for diversified computing capabilities. "The key to AI development is an infrastructure capable of providing the optimal diversified computing power with elasticity and efficiency. This means that building an AI-native cloud infrastructure is crucial," he noted. CloudMatrix, specifically, is designed to meet the increasing demands for computing capacity and efficiency. The solution integrates and pools resources like CPUs, NPUs, DPUs, storage, and memory, transitioning from monolithic structures to matrix computing power.

On the second key release, the Huawei Mainframe-to-Cloud Solution, Zhang highlighted its importance for enterprise cloudification. "Core system migration is the last mile on the journey of enterprise cloudification and the way forward to embrace full-scale intelligence," Zhang stated. This solution facilitates the development of new cloud-based core systems with high availability and better agility. It includes capabilities such as detecting hardware faults rapidly, financial-grade middleware support, and fast multi-site disaster recovery.

Tao Jingwen, Huawei's Director of the Board and President of the Quality, Business Process & IT Management Department, shared insights on Huawei's own digital transformation. Highlighting the significance of an AI data governance system, Tao said, "Enterprises must deeply integrate AI models with their data toolchains and build on their traditional data governance and data platforms to develop an AI security governance mechanism and an AI digital pipeline."

In addition, Huawei Cloud has also upgraded its DataArts platform to provide AI-centric data foundations. Founded on an AI-native strategy comprising "AI for Cloud" and "Cloud for AI," these new upgrades are meant to simplify data usage and improve model training efficiency. Bruno Zhang, CTO of Huawei Cloud, explained CloudMatrix's capabilities further, "A high-speed bus interconnects multiple resources, achieving resource pooling from the cluster level to the data centre level. This aligns with the demands of the AI era for compute in terms of scale, efficiency, stability, and scalability."

Bruno Zhang also introduced the "1+N" Pangu assistant system, focusing on integrating Pangu models to build intelligence into cloud services. He described the system as a new era in cloud service interaction, with the "1" representing Pangu Doer, an intelligent assistant that supports the entire cloud journey, and the "N" signifying various enterprise-specific use cases. A noted application of this system is the Postal Savings Bank of China's intelligent development platform, which substantially enhances R&D efficiency through AI-powered code analysis.

Throughout the event, Huawei emphasised its commitment to industry collaboration, with various sessions and showcases demonstrating the latest technologies and best practices in cloud infrastructure and AI enablement. The overarching aim was to amplify industry intelligence through innovative digital solutions.
