Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison hosted Indonesia's first-ever "Banking AI Day" event in Jakarta, marking a significant milestone in the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) within the country's banking and financial sectors. The forum brought together leaders from the technology and banking industries, representatives from the Central Bank of Indonesia (Bank Indonesia), the Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan), and notable financial institutions such as Bank Central Asia, Bank Mandiri, BNI, BRI, and BTN. The primary focus was on the transformative potential of AI and its implications for the future of banking in Indonesia.

The event underscored the importance of AI in improving operational efficiency, enhancing data security, accelerating technological adoption, and elevating customer experiences. By embedding AI into their core processes, financial institutions can significantly contribute to the growth of Indonesia's digital economy while ensuring secure, efficient, and customer-centric services.

"Indonesia holds the highest potential for digital economic growth in the ASEAN region. Leveraging advanced technologies such as AI, cloud computing, and blockchain, our financial institutions can deliver faster, more efficient, and cost-effective services," stated Destry Damayanti, Senior Deputy Governor at the Central Bank of Indonesia. She further emphasised the importance of events like Banking AI Day, highlighting their critical role in ensuring that Indonesia's financial sector remains competitive on the global stage.

Vikram Sinha, President Director and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, shared his vision at the event, saying, "At Indosat, our larger purpose is to empower Indonesia. The Banking AI Day exemplifies our commitment to reimagining the banking sector as a cornerstone of Indonesia's economic development. With AI at our fingertips, we believe we can unlock infinite possibilities, propelling Indonesia towards the realization of its Golden Indonesia Vision 2045." He also mentioned the company's role in leading the charge to bring sovereign AI to Indonesia, aiming to steer the nation towards true digital and technological independence.

Indosat's role in this transformation extends through its comprehensive technology ecosystem. This includes state-of-the-art Data Centers by BDx Indonesia, which boast a total IT capacity of over 150MW across ten operating carrier-neutral colocation facilities in Indonesia. Additionally, Lintasarta will contribute by providing an AI factory equipped with GPU Merdeka, powered by NVIDIA, to serve as an advanced sovereign AI cloud within the ecosystem. Such facilities enhance Indosat's broader AI-driven initiatives, positioning the company as a facilitator for an AI-native "TechCo" transformation. Beyond infrastructure, Indosat is committed to empowering Indonesia's startup ecosystem by fostering innovation, enhancing data security, and nurturing homegrown talent.

Dennis Ang, Senior Director of Enterprise Business for the ASEAN and ANZ Region at NVIDIA, spoke about the collaboration with Indosat: "NVIDIA is collaborating with Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison to bring sovereign AI and accelerated computing to Indonesia's financial sector. With GPU Merdeka, powered by NVIDIA AI, Indonesian financial institutions can achieve greater efficiency, security, and innovation while maintaining control over their digital futures."

The Banking AI Day event highlighted the role of AI as a cornerstone for transformation within Indonesia's financial sector. By fostering dialogue and collaboration between key stakeholders, the event aims to drive innovation and ensure Indonesia's standing in the global AI community. Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison's initiatives and partnerships reflect a broader effort to equip Indonesia with the tools needed for a competitive and future-ready financial landscape.
